South East League match against Surrey. Team selected:

Andy Rideout (Dudsbury), Adan Yates (Parkstone), Oscar Hein (Parkstone), Jenson Bull (Parkstone), Alex Johnstone (Broadstone), Matt Warren (Yeovil), Matt Sandy (Sherborne), Tom Kollberg (Broadstone) with non-Playing Captain: Andrew Robson (Sherborne).

Unfortunately, as seems to be the case with my captaincy, things did not go to plan. An outbreak of Covid the week before the match meant that Alex Johnston and Jenson Bull would have a race against time to be fit. Being such short notice, it was incredibly difficult to draft in any replacements. AJ would ultimately miss out, but Jenson, made the match, albeit without practice. Andy Robson was drafted in to fill AJ’s place BUT was struck down with food poisoning at 2am on the Sunday morning. Another setback, but luckily, Matt Sandy’s brother, Stephen from Sherborne was able to step in to make his debut.

Not the preparation for the match that we would have wanted. Whilst the result speaks for itself, and we were outplayed, out-thought, and outgunned, congratulations to Stephen for getting a ½ point in the afternoon. With only Matt Sandy and I picking up the other Dorset points in the afternoon singles, the 9½ - 2½ win did not flatter Surrey.

Thank you to Sherborne for their hospitality and for hosting the match. We look forward to going back for a 3rd time this year for the County Strokeplay.
