Downes Crediton played host to Dorset’s second league match of the campaign against in form Devon. This was Devon’s final league fixture of the year and were unbeaten and therefore looking to take the 2022 title.

The course was playing extremely bouncy and proved a tough test to all the players. With the temperature in the mid-twenties in was a battle both physically and mentally.

The morning foursomes got off to a tricky start with the middle two matches going behind very early on. The new partnership of Wheeler and Graham however did the business and took a well deserved 3 & 1 victory in the top match. Through no lack of effort the middle two matches did go down heavily but the lads learnt a lot from the experience. Harvey and Murphy then took a fine 3 & 1 win leaving the tie all square at lunch.

The singles got away at 1pm and Oliver Clegg got off to a fast start going 3 up through 3, all the boys were fairing pretty well through the front 9 holes and it really was game on! Unfortunately our young side did begin to struggle on the back 9 as the heat continued to burn the fairways.

The match proved very close in the end but Devon finished with a 1 point victory. A special note goes to Ryan Murphy for winning both his games.

We now move onto our match against Cornwall at St Austal Golf Club on 17th August.
