The first home match of the season against Devon was played at the isle of Purbeck on May 19th. The team were led again in preparation on the Saturday by Martyn Thompson with input from Tom Bastow playing his home course.

Weather on match day was fresh after early morning sunshine, but unusually, very light winds through the whole day.

The morning foursomes were a very tight series with good wins by Tom Kollberg and Joe Turner and Tom Bastow and Andy Simpson. Half points were gained by Oscar Hein and Jenson Bull and Nick Hopwood and Zac Mudford. A lunchtime lead of 3 points to 2 did not seem to reflect how well the team had played, but we were confident that matches would go our way in the afternoon.

Unfortunately, the afternoon singles proved just as elusive as the foursomes with good performances not translating into points. Wins by Lee James, Jenson Bull and Tom Bastow and half points by Oscar Hein and Nick Hopwood left us just shy of a win. As in the foursomes, we were unable to close out certain matches. A frustrating day given how well the team had played.

The next matches will be at South West Week following the County championships. We are looking forward to competing there and achieving the results our play deserves.
