County Championship 2025

1. Conditions & Rules of Entry
a) 36-hole scratch Strokeplay followed by matchplay (top 16 qualify).
b) In the event of ties, countback rules apply from last 18, 9, 6, 3, 2, 1 as per the card.
c) Matchplay ties - sudden death playoff.
d) Online entry only (please note once the start sheet has been issued entry fees are non-refundable).
e) Entry limited to 60 players, handicap index limit of 5.
f) In the event of a ballot by handicap index, entrants must have submitted a minimum 8 competition scorecards in the previous 24 months.
g) Should entries exceed 60 there will be a ballot of the highest handicaps to reduce the entries to that number.
h) Current Champions will not be subject to any ballot.
i) Tee times will be sent to competitors via email if provided and will be available on the website.
j) Entrants must be of Amateur Status as defined by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, must not have taken part in a County Championship of another County Union (this being the Championship in which the winner qualifies to play in the English Champions Tournament), or have represented another County Union at golf in the 12 months previous to the starting date of the event in question.
k) Must conform to the age and handicap limits which are included in the regulations of the event and must be a member of a Member Club or born in Dorset and be a member of a Club affiliated to another County Union. 


2. Prizes
a) The Graham Butler Trophy to be held for one year, by the player winning the Match Play and will be the County Champion. The winner of the Championship will be expected to represent Dorset at the England Golf Champion of Champions Tournament held in September 2023.
b) The R.E Garrett Silver Salver to be held for one year by the competitor with the best scratch score over 36 holes.
c) The SIKA Trophy for the Mid-Amateur Championship to be held for one year by the competitor over 35 years of age on the day of the championship, with the best scratch score over 36 holes.
d) The Luffman Cup for the Colts Championship to be held for one year by the competitor under 21 years of age on the day of the championship, with the best scratch score over 36 holes.
e) The Team Championship Cup to be held for one year by the team recording the lowest aggregate of two gross scores from three for each round. A club may be represented by as many teams as they have players, each team to be made up of 3 players and must be declared to the Secretary prior to the start of the Championship. The winning Club will be expected to represent Dorset at the England Golf Champion Club Tournament in September 2024.
