Ann Talbot handed over the job of DLCGA Handicap Adviser to Claire Woolley at the last handicap meeting on Friday 8th September

Ann’s Retirement

Claire Woolley asked me to say a few words about my dear friend and our handicap mentor for many years.

Ann started shadowing Eleanor Morris Yeovil GC, from 2002 she was the County Handicap Secretary at the time. Then Ann took over this role in 2003 and has been in it ever since — over 20 years — devil for punishment, I say!

Ann has held quarterly handicap meetings regularly in the last few years, due to the new too complicated handicap systems that came into being. That is when I came along and joined in the meetings with Ann. I could see many mystified faces when she was going through the changes! Hopefully everyone went away with something they grasped, I know I did. She is, and always will be, I am sure, a fountain of knowledge where handicapping and rules are concerned.

From all of us, I am sure you would like me to thank Ann for all her dedicated hard work and knowledge of the systems over the years — nothing has been too much trouble — if she did not know the answer for handicap queries or rules of golf (which was rare!) — she always found out for us all. Well done Ann.

I would also like to wish Claire all the very best in the role of County Handicap Advisor, which she has grasped exceptionally well in a short space of time.
